40 Irving Avenue East Providence, RI  02914 401-438-4456

Brief History Construction of Winslow Gardens was funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in conjunction with the former New England Southern Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The project was the first HUD Section 202 project constructed in Rhode Island for affordable elderly housing. Winslow Gardens opened to residents on April 1, 1971 for senior independent living.

Winslow Gardens contains 115 units: 40 Efficiency/Studio apartments, 20 small bedroom apartments, 5 large bedroom apartments (suitable for couples), 50 Assisted Living units, and communal spaces for Assisted Living residents.  Each unit contains a kitchenette and bath.

Entrance Criteria To enter Winslow Gardens an individual must be at least 62 years of age and have an annual income of less than $41,000.  The ceiling for couples is $46,850. Winslow Gardens and Linn Health Care Center are open to all persons regardless of religion, race, or creed.  A chronological waiting list is maintained for each apartment type when units are not immediately available.

Rents include all utilities except telephone and cable and are below market rate.  An efficiency is $479/month, an alcove is $633/month, and a one bedroom is $736/month.*  The Federal Rent Supplement Program is available.  Lees Hall Dining Room offers 3 meals a day.  Residents only pay for meals they eat.  *Rates as of August 2007 - subject to change.

The Residents Council plans activities, trips and a Holiday Bazaar.  A beauty parlor and country store provide goods and services for residents of Winslow Gardens and the adjacent Linn Health Care Center.

Congregate Housing Services Program (CHSP) helps residents maintain independent living through the provision of housekeeping, personal care, and medical management.  A Service Coordinator assesses resident needs and initiates services as required.

The Affordable Assisted Living Program expands our continuum of care by providing 24 hour services for residents who require intensive personal  support  without skilled nursing care.
